So we headed out to Ilze's place in Jurmala around 1:30 and stayed until 10:30 pm. It was a good time spending Easter with friends. We dyed eggs the eastern European way. We collected fruits and vegetables, boiled some with raw eggs and boiled others and then added boiled eggs to dye them. We had boiled onion skins, beets, and cranberries. The onion skins worked the best because they were able to dye the eggs with a deep brown color. We add plants and rice and wrap it with pantyhose to keep the item in place. When we let the eggs sit in the pots; the print from the plants and what not are left. Check out the egg pics. They turned out pretty good. We also had a lot to eat and drink. It was a good time had by all. Everyone in attendance were Kaija, Ilze, David, Katrina, Julia, Kalvis, and myself. :)
Saturday, Kaija and I went to Jelgava for a day trip. It was a good day to be out. The sun wasn't shining but the air was nice and mild. We got off the train and walked into a city where we didn't know where to go. We know we wanted to head towards the castle, now a university, but went in a large circle instead. "Look, the Latvian flag! That must be the university. :)" Later on, "Oh, it is just a high school." So we marched on and continued our search. We stepped into a flower shop and the ladies told us to find Big Street. Yes, the name is really Big Street. We crossed the bridge and found the very large building. We took some pictures but the museum is closed until May 1. Oh well. We stopped by Statsoil to get a couple of hotdogs, not three. Kaija accidentally ordered two; I thought she knew Latvian. ;) We wanted to give the hotdog away so we thought a homeless person would love that thought. Unfortunately, the only person we saw was one sleeping. So, we continued and left the uneaten hotdog near a garbage bin and hopefully someone who is hungry will eat it. What a day!
